Kaleidoscope of Flavors

The purpose of this new event “Kaleidoscope of Flavors” is to help the community learn about our non-profit organizations.  There are 23 non-profits participating at 14 different locations.  Our goal is to have fun activities, food, displays and information at organization locations.  Community members will visit the sites and see first hand what each participating organization is all about.  This event is geared toward persons of all ages!  Community Members will use a punch card as they visit each location to have a chance to win a Grand Prize Basket filled with goodies and gift certificates.  Please CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO or contact the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce at 897-9161.

1. Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce
Location:  Lowell Showboat, Riverwalk Plaza.

Step back in time and visit the Showboat and see the why Lowell was named Showboat City!  Pick up information about what is happening in Lowell, Business Membership and register for free to win “Shop Lowell Gift Certificates”. Refreshments and desserts will be served on the boat.

2. Friends of the Englehardt Library
Location:  Englehardt-Lowell Branch Library
“So You Want to Write a Book”.  The Englehardt Friends of the Library will host two authors, Laurie Kuna and John DeJong, and illustrator Jan Johnson to discuss how to write a book. This event is in conjunction with the Lowell Kaleidoscope of Flavors project designed to highlight volunteer opportunities in Lowell.

3. North Country Trail Association
Location:  229 E Main St, corner Main and Monroe.
 
Did you know that the North Country National Scenic Trail, the longest of 11 National Scenic Trails in the United States, passes right through the City of Lowell?  Learn more about how you can experience this amazing Trail by visiting us in historic downtown Lowell.  Meet headquarters staff and local Western Michigan Chapter members, who will tell the story of this amazing Trail and be available to answer questions and provide advice and suggestions for your next hiking trip, whether an introductory day trip or a weeklong adventure.  Free maps and light refreshments provided.

4. Lowell Area Historical Museum
Location:  LAHM, 325 W Main St.

A demonstration of furniture making the way they did it more than a hundred years ago, using only hand tools.  We will showcase a few examples of furniture that were constructed using these old fashion tools.  We will be serving hot tea and cookies in the Victorian dining room.

5.  Lowell Area Arts Council
Franciscan Life Process Center

Location:  LACC Gallery, 149 S. Hudson St.
Franciscan Life Process Center will be featured at the Lowell Area Arts Council.  The art exhibition at the Gallery is called “My Home Town” and features artworks created by community artists ages 13 and up that showcase hometown values, traditions, and the importance of community and family.  Hands-on art activities will be provided along the theme of this exhibition.  Tina Greene of Kissing Rock Kitchens is providing the small-bit appetizers at the Arts Council.

Location:  Richards Park, Playground & Skateboard Park

Free scoops of Hudsonville Ice Cream!  Come and enjoy the newly remodeled playground and skateboard park at Richards Park.  The Police Department will be offering a Child Car Seat Fitting Station from 5pm-7pm.  Stop by and have your carseat(s) checked.  Lowell Ambulance will promote bike/skateboard safety and provide info on services offered.  Lowell Area Fire Dept will have the Fire Truck and Smoke House.  We will also have ice cream and refreshments.

Lowell Area Boy Scouts
Location:  Lowell First UMC Church, 621 E Main
Stop in and learn more about pre-school, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Kids Club and our church.  We will have food and fair trade coffee.  The community will be able to experience Girl Scouts Activities at different grade levels and see different ways you can volunteer/participate in Girl Scouts.  As a Girl Scout volunteer, you’ll add meaningful days to girls’ lives and to your own.  Experience Girl Scout activities, cookies and punch!

8. Lowell Senior Center
Gilda’s Club Lowell Program
Location:  Senior Center, 314 South Hudson St.

Representatives from the Senior Center and Gilda’s Club will be available to answer questions and provide program information.  Tours of the Lowell Senior Center and Gilda’s Club.  Light appetizers (cheese, crackers, sausage, etc), refreshments (lemonade, coffee, tea, water) and desserts (cookies and pastries) will be served.

9. Lowell Women’s Club
Location:  Look Memorial Fire Station, 315 S. Hudson

Come and find out what the LWC is all about!  Find out what kinds of programs and fantastic food we have at our monthly meetings.  If you are interested in volunteering in our community, helping to provide scholarships to our senior girls, or just want to make new friends, let us show you what we do.  Enjoy coffee, punch and yummy desserts!

10. Oak Hill Place
Location:  2991 Alden Nash Ave SE.
 
Water Aerobics will be in progress, Yoga for children and Art therapy will be on display.  FREE Yoga session at 6:30-7:30 p.m. for the public.  Rebecca Grummet is the Instructor.  Call 616.446.3707 if you have questions.  Visitors will be able to participate in water aerobics and will be able to talk with the Yoga Instructors and Art therapy Instructor.

11. Lowell Area YMCA
Location: YMCA, 1335 West Main Street

Check us out, set your wellness goals, meet our fitness staff! 
Body fat analysis and blood pressure checks available.  FREE ½ hour Women on Weights class:  6:00-6:30pm or 7:00-7:30pm.  Kaleidoscope of Flavors specials:  50% off personal training coupons and $10 off fall class sign up.  Healthy Chili will be served.

12. Lowell Area Trailway
Location:  Creekside Kingdom on Gee Dr.

Come and learn more about the Lowell Area Trails at Creekside Kingdom off of Gee Drive.  Exciting things are happening in Lowell to provide us a safe place to exercise.  ADA BIKE SHOP will be providing bikes to ride the existing section of trail on Gee Drive.  Stop in and test ride bikes, get your questions answered about trails & bikes, and enjoy the outdoors. Drive, walk or bike to us!  Stop by for a free entry to win a Bike Helmet & other gifts!  Sub sandwiches and refreshments will be provided.

13. Flat River Outreach Ministries

Come and tour our facility!  We will have table displays, volunteer sign ups and homemade goodies!

14. Wittenbach/Wege Agriscience & Environmental Education Center
Lowell Community Wellness
Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association
Location:  Wittenbach/Wege Center – 11715 Vergennes St.
Join the Wittenbach/Wege Center and Lowell Community Wellness for a night of informal garden tours and conversation with a local chef.  Visitors will walk away with an increased knowledge of how to grow their own food as well as how to cook using local, fresh produce.  We will be serving gazpacho, a cold raw vegetable soup known for its refreshing qualities, made from organic-grown produce from our community garden.  Light refreshments will also be served.

Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association will be setting up a portable telescope at Wittenbach/Wege Center for visitors to view the wonders of the night sky. The JAMES C. VEEN OBSERVATORY is owned and operated by the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association. It was built entirely by the members over a five-year span in the late 1960's, and became fully operational in 1970. The twin-domed observatory has been kept technologically current, and is used for educational and research purposes.
