LOWELL, Mich.-  A historical farmhouse in Lowell is one step closer to being preserved.

The Fallasburg Historical Society has been working to preserve the Orlin Douglass/Tower Farmhouse and adjacent tower barns since 2010.  Time had taken a toll on the iconic farm, causing deterioration and decay to the buildings.

The Fallasburg Historical Society has been collaborating with the community and Lowell Foundation  on the project, which is already seeing success.  The Tower Barn, which was the project’s first focus, has been named the 2014 Barn of the Year by the Michigan Barn Preservation Network.  Volunteers are now focused on the second phase of the project- the Tower Farmhouse, which has undergone foundation work, asphalt siding removal and re-roofing.

The Fallasburg Historical Society hopes to keep on restoring the historical farmhouse with the continued help of volunteers and donations.  For more information on how you can help, email kentamke@comcast.net.
