Christmas festivities kick-off in Lowell this weekend

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) An annual favorite returns this weekend in Lowell.  The night-time Santa parade along Main Street takes place Saturday December 4th.

The parade starts at 6pm sharp.  All of the floats are illuminated as they travel through the historic business district.

The festivities begin earlier in the day and include an ice sculpture challenge, visits with Santa on the Robert E. Lee Showboat and a pancake supper.

Christmas Through Lowell a success story for local businesses

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) Ella's Coffee Shop on Main Street was a hopping place over the weekend.

Owner Ella Bolan says business was much better than she anticipated. Bolan says sales were actually tripled her expectations.  Ella's opened in June in the same location of Voyages Coffee Shop.  Bolan says even on Sunday, when the shop is usually closed, business was steady.

Down the street at Giggles and Gum Drops, business was also brisk. Owner Melissa Freeman says they had a steady stream of customers throughout the weekend.

Unique Idea's at 2010 Christmas Through Lowell

It was exciting to discover imaginative people displaying their inventiveness like the Up-Cycle Sisters selling their Album Bags at Christmas Through Lowell, stop #13.  The creative young entrepreneur sisters made decorative bags using old vinyl record album sleeves.  The Album Bags seemed to be an instant hit as I saw ladies wandering through the Grand Volute Ballroom carrying the bags on their shoulders.

Another striking and unique product I discovered was Pamela Benjamin’s “Windowworks Glass Art.”  The whimsical figures of “Six Maids A-Dancing” and a wind swept scene named “Autumnal” were only two of several beautiful and cheerful displays exhibited in old windows.  There were many impressive locally made crafts for sale.
