Annual fundraiser for Franciscan Center features fall family friendly event on October 10th

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) The Franciscan Center will host a 'Country Sampler; a family friendly fall celebration Sunday October 10th.

The afternoon begins with the Celebration of Mass at 11:00 a.m., with food, games, music and the Country Store opening at noon.  This year, there will be no entrance fee although guests may purchase coupons for lunch and selected activities. A lunch of hot dogs or “Walking Tacos”, corn-on-the-cob and apple pie is planned. Guests are also welcome to bring their own picnic lunches.  

Families can enjoy team games, horse-drawn wagon rides, miniature horse cart rides, pumpkin painting, puppet making, live music, apple roasting and more.

Yeeee Haw! Get your friends together and come on down for an Old Fashioned Barn Dance with Caller – Bonnie L. Grooters. This Fun Night will take place during Harvest Celebration on Saturday, October 9 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. in the Reath Barn at Lowell Fairgrounds. Relax, let your hair down and enjoy a variety of music.  Ages 12 – adult. $6 per person at the door.

Ghost Stories - October 9th

Lowell, MI - The Lowell Area Arts Council will host ghost story readings at the Lowell Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 9th at 2:00 pm. This free event is part of Lowell's Harvest Celebration. New Exhibit Opens

“Fabulous Furniture”  

Featuring a Fantastic Victorian Bedroom

October 2, 2010

The Museum is in full swing, gearing up for our next special exhibit entitled “Fabulous Furniture”. This wonderful exhibit will showcase a beautiful Victorian bedroom suite manufactured by Berkey & Gay of Grand Rapids. The Grand Rapids Public Museum has agreed to lend this beautiful suite to our Museum for two years. This Victorian bedroom  will make  an magnificent accompaniment to our Victorian dining room and parlor. This exhibit  will  educate you on how furniture manufacturing played a significant role in the early development of our community and the Grand Rapids area. It will also show us how the Victorians lived in their private quarters, the bedroom.

Lowell Area Arts Council Hosting three Mid-Michigan artists

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) Three top artists from the Mid-Michigan area are coming to Lowell for a show.

The show looks at the "Inspirations" of Mark Mehaffey, Karen Kierstead Miller and Sally Martin Stewart.  The Lowell Area Arts Council is promising a colorful show.

It runs September 14th through October 23rd.  A public reception to the meet the artists is September 19th from 2-4pm.

Creative writers wanted for the annual Ghost Stories Contest

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) If you are an aspiring author, the annual 'Write A Ghost Story" event is fast approaching.

The contest is open to writers 5th to 12th graders as well as adults.

If selected, the author's may choose whether to read the story aloud at the public meeting.  Winners will be selected October 6th.
