There is a challenge among three Snap Fitness Gyms in the area, and so far, Lowell has a significant lead. Here are the results.

These percentages are based on the people who have weighed in weekly. The final weigh-in on Monday, February 25 from 9am-7pm.

Heart Healthy Week Sales Donates To American Heart Association

If you want to grab a meal and help the American Heart Association. In honor of Heart Healthy Week,  Flat River Grill is donating one dollar from every feature sold to the AMA on February 18 from 11:30am - 10:00pm.  In recognition that February is Heart Health Month, the restaurant will feature all heart healthy dinner features throughout the week to promote health and wellness in the community. Selections include Balsamic and Parmesan Roasted Cauliflower or even the biscottis with heart healthy dark chocolate and cherry fondue!

Lowell resident Larry Yachcik was recently appointed by Governor Rick Snyder to serve on the Michigan Long-Term Care Supports and Services Advisory Commission. Housed within the Michigan Department of Community Health, the 17-member commission provides quality assurance reviews of Michigan's long-term care system.

Free haircuts for Lowell Elementary Kids tomorrow

If that last haircut is growing out on your little one, you might want to stop by Cherry Creek Elementary  tomorrow afterschool.

Free haircuts will be available to children for Bushnell and Cherry Creek students at Cherry Creek Elementary in Lowell on Tuesday, January 15 from 3:30-6:30pm. Students and instructors from Douglas J. Aveda will cut hair in the school's cafeteria. Children who wish to have their hair cut must have an adult with them. Make up tips and arm massages will also be available!

West Michigan movies were not box office hits

How did movies shot in West Michigan do at the theatres in 2012?  Let's just say that none of them was a hit.

The movie “Touchback” grossed $204,232 domestically, according to Box Office Mojo.  The film was partially shot at Pal’s Dinner in Cascade and in the Coopersville area.   According to Box Office Mojo,  “Touchback” ranked 289th out of 655 films.  It opened in 69 theatres, including some in the Grand Rapids area.  “Touchback” starred Brian Presley and Kurt Russell.  The film goes back in time and was about a high school football player who got a second chance and along the way discovered what was really important in life.

Another movie made in West Michigan, “Playback” was the second lowest grossing movie in 2012.  It made just $264 during its box office debut and played in only one theatre.  "Pla
