KENT COUNTY, Mich.—The Kent County Board of Commissioners has formed a new group to help support, expand and attract agri-business to the county.

The Agri-Business Community Work Group is comprised of people from a range of agricultural, business and legislative backgrounds, located across the county.  Members include:

LOWELL, Mich.—Plans to plant four new trees near the newly constructed BP gas station in Lowell have been delayed.

The tree planting had been previously scheduled for Arbor Day, then delayed until May 9. City officials say the owners of BP are not ready for landscaping just yet. 

 The newly built gas station is located at 403 West Main Street and includes a conveience store and attached car wash.

KENT COUNTY, Mich.—If you’re looking for a clean, safe place to dine out this weekend, the Kent County Health Department has some suggestions- 471 of them, actually.

The KCHD recently announced the winners of its 2nd annual Food Safety Awards.  This year’s 471 winners were selected from more than 1700 licensed facilities that were inspected through 2013.    To qualify, each establishment had to meet the following criteria:

Bakers have been busy at Heidi’s Farmstand & Bakery, as they prepare a fresh set of treats for visitors.  While it’s too early for vegetables and fruits, the business is selling flowers by the basketful.

(Kent County Administration) – Businesses and residents in Kent County are in good hands fiscally. Kent County remains financially strong, according to rating agencies Standard & Poor’s (S&P) and Moody’s Investors Service. Both agencies affirmed the long-term Triple-A credit ratings– the highest possible – for the County. This represents the 16th consecutive year that Kent County has held the long-term Triple-A ratings from both agencies. Both S&P and Moody’s also affirmed the highest short-term credit ratings available for the County. S&P noted that Kent County has a history of strong financial management and commitment to meeting financialobligations. My Town Lowell:  New coffee shop celebrates grand opening April 29

LOWELL, Mich.--  The City of Lowell is getting its first Biggby Coffee shop.

The new business is located at 11826 Fulton Street E.  The Palmer family will celebrate the grand opening of their new franchise on Tuesday, April 29.   Austin and Landon Palmer will be managing the store.

“We all love how Biggby serves amazing drinks while providing the customer with an experience unlike any other coffee shop. We love people, we love to be happy and we love drinking great coffee. Biggby was essentially a no brainer,” said Landon Palmer.

“We are so excited to become a part of the Lowell Community! We cannot wait to get to know the all of our customers and see them every day,” said Eileen Palmer.

Like other Biggby Coffee stores, the Lowell location will feature free Wi-Fi, specialty lattes, smoothies and tee.  Store hours will be Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
