LOWELL, Mich.—Organized activities on the North Country National Scenic Trail in Lowell are being suspended, as the government shutdown continues.

On Tuesday, October 1, employees with the NCTA were ordered to stop all activities tied to the National Park Service, which was also shut down with the federal government.  Until further notice, volunteers will not be allowed to sponsor or lead hikes.  Building, maintaining and working on the North Country National Scenic Trail will also be suspended.

NCTA employees are asking volunteers and groups to email Jill at jdecator@northcountrytrail.org about any and all activities affected by the shutdown, so she can forward that information to The Partnership for the National Trails System, which will send it onto Congress.
