LOWELL, Mich.—He died for our country, but the legacy of an Army sniper from Lowell is living on.

Sgt. Lucas T. Beachnaw died from his injuries after a gunfight in Afghanistan in January 2010.  He was just 23 years old.

The Lucas Beachnaw Memorial Scholarship was created by his family to help Lowell children experience the joy of snowboarding, just as Beachnaw did.  The scholarship is open to Lowell Area Schools students who would like to take snowboarding lessons at Cannonsburg Ski Lodge, but cannot afford it.

The deadline to apply for the Lucas Beachnaw Memorial Scholarship is November 22.  You can find the application here.
