My Town Lowell: Volunteers needed to pull off community feast

LOWELL, Mich.— First Congregational United Church of Christ is looking for  volunteers to help pull off the Lowell Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

The feast is free to all and will take place 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at First Congregational UCC, located at 865 Lincoln Lake Ave. SE.  Last year, a team of nearly 85 volunteers cooked up the massive meal, which included more than 100 pounds of turkey, 25 pounds of roast beef, 75 pounds of potatoes and 15 pies.  Afterward, all of the table scraps and turkey carcasses were served up to the animals at a nearby wildlife reserve.

The Lowell Community Thanksgiving Dinner is sponsored by Lowell area churches.  Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to take part in the event.  For more information or to sign up, call (616) 897-5906.

Organizers are also in need of cash donations.  Checks may be made payable to First Congregational UCC, marked “Community Thanksgiving.”  Donations that exceed expenses will be given to Flat River Outreach Ministry.
