Enhancing Technology

This school year, many teachers in the Lowell district are using iPads to enhance classroom instruction. The use of technology in the classroom has many proven benefits for students, as it prepares young children for future 21st century careers where the use of many different digital technologies is becoming more prevalent. Technology like iPads allows students flexibility to make creative presentations, give students easier access to current research and books, and can increase their engagement with the learning material.

This fall, the Lowell Education Foundation awarded grants to several teachers looking to increase their capabilities of using this technology in their classroom. LEF awarded teachers funds to purchase full size keyboards for easier typing on the iPad devices, cables and equipment for teachers to project their own iPad for the entire class, and many applications for students to use independently in centers with the devices. These apps allow students to practice math facts, letter sounds, and read novels in a fun and engaging way. LEF is excited to support the use of this innovative technology in our schools, but our support would not be possible without your donations.

Tailgating with Lowell Education Foundation

This year, the Lowell Education Foundation got in the football spirit and organized our inaugural tailgate fundraiser. LEF set up a tent at the game entrance for the Lowell High School Varsity football game against East Grand Rapids to serve dinner for the spectators for a free-will donation to Lowell Area Schools. The LHS Art & Drama club provided face painting for the kids and we auctioned off an MSU football signed by Lowell’s own Keith Nichol. The football sold to an MSU super-fan for $125. The fundraiser will directly benefit Lowell Area Schools. We look forward to seeing you at this event next season!
