Christmas festivities kick-off in Lowell this weekend

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) An annual favorite returns this weekend in Lowell.  The night-time Santa parade along Main Street takes place Saturday December 4th. 

The parade starts at 6pm sharp.  All of the floats are illuminated as they travel through the historic business district.

The festivities begin earlier in the day and include an ice sculpture challenge, visits with Santa on the Robert E. Lee Showboat and a pancake supper.

More people needed for charter bus trip to see the Red Arrows play at Ford Field

 Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) The Touchdown Club is sponsoring a charter bus to Ford Field this Friday. Right now 34 people are signed up to go. The club needs at least 54 people to secure the bus for the trip.

If you are interested in taking the charter bus you can call Donna Miller at 340-3025. The cost is $15.00 per person. The Touchdown Club needs 20 more people by noon Wednesday November 24th.

The bus will leave the high school at 9:30a.m. Friday.

You better watch out, Santa Claus is coming to town!

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) Despite a very busy schedule Santa Claus is coming to town early next month.

Santa, Mrs. Claus and several helpers are planning to return to the Lowell Showboat again this year.  Digital photos are being provided to parents for free with the financial support of Modern Photographics and River Valley Credit Union.

Santa's Christmas schedule for 2010 was released this week by the chamber of commerce.

Wednesday: December 8th, 15th, 22nd at 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Friday: December 10th - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Saturday: December 11th and 18th 10:30am to 1:00pm

If you go, chances are you will wait outside for while so be sure to dress for the occasion.

 

Christmas Through Lowell coming soon

LOWELL, Mich. (WZZM) The recent warm weather might make it hard to believe, but Christmas through Lowell kicks off next week.

40 homes and businesses are participating in this years event which includes 200 crafters and artists. Christmas Through Lowell kicks off November 19th and continues all weekend. Shoppers can find many original hand made crafts, antiques and much more.

B.D. White Nature Preserve workday this Saturday

Lowell, MI - The high winds West Michigan suffered these past weeks have created a need for an impromptu workday at the B.D. White Nature Preserve in Lowell, MI. There are numerous downed logs to remove from the trail and the nature preserve sign must be reinstalled. Depending on the number of volunteers, they hope to remove some invasive woody plants at the preserve as well.

2010 Christmas parade theme announced

Lowell, MI - The Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that "Christmas Cartoons" will be the theme for this years annual Christmas Night-time Parade. They're hoping to see businesses, service groups, churches, school groups, organizations, and the community itself come together to make this years parade their most exciting yet.

The floats will be judged based on their use of creativity and diversity. The first place winner will receive $150, second will receive $100 and third place will receive $75.

In an effort to provide additional community support throughout the holiday season, they have added an entry fee of 5 non-perishable food items, a new toy or gently used coat. These items will be given to Flat River Outreach Ministries and Curtis Cleaners Annual Used Coat Drive.

Jeff Daniels' Escanaba in Love

Thebes Players of Lowell presents Jeff Daniels' Escanaba in Love, opening Friday, November 5th.  Enjoy dinner theater at Larkins or come for the play only.

Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings and will run November 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, and 20.  Dinner is at 6:30 PM and the play begins at 7:30 PM.  There will be a Saturday Matinee at 2:30 PM (no dinner) on November 7 and 14. 

Ticket prices: Dinner and theater- $23 (reservations required for dinner) Show Only: $10 in advance or $12 at the door.
