Girls’ Night Out – Trolls Have Gone Home!

Come celebrate with us!  Come see our New Bridge!  We have sent our Trolls home after the long summer construction of their home.  The new bridge is completed and we said goodbye!  What is even more exciting; we have “the Lowell Troll” a giant 8 foot sculpture placed in the Flat River.     

Main Street will come alive with Girls’ Night Out on Thursday, October 14, 5 – 9 PM.  Fun, giveaways, sales and discounts is what you will find at our unique establishments in Lowell.  Pick-up post cards at any of the participants get it signed 15 times to win a chance at the grand gift bag filled with goodies from participating merchants.

Fire and Water ART! showroom presents artist Karen Godfrey

Lowell, MI - The Fire and Water ART! gallery of Lowell will present several pieces by mixed media artist Karen Godfrey from November 1st through November 30th.

Karen's art pieces use angels, icons, and religious forms to make you stop and ponder their meaning.

"My artwork represents the mysteries of life. Some of my imagery comes from dreams, while others are more intuitive and symbolic of the life, death, rebirth cycle you see in nature," writes Karen.

The gallery can be found at 219 West Main St and will be open 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Wednesdays through Saturdays and 11:00 am to 7 pm on Fridays.

Stargazing at the Veen Observatory

Lowell, MI - Come see the awesome wonders of the universe on Saturday, October 9th when the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association opens the James C. Veen Observatory to the public. Visitors can view the night sky through the observatories telescopes or through several other telescopes setup by the association members as well as tour the facility and enjoy an audio-visual presentation about the GRAAA and the observatory.

The observatory will be open from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm and admission is just $3 for adults, $2 for 17 and under, and free for children under 5.

Lowell Harvest Celebration

City of Lowell, MDOT host ribbon-cutting event for completion of M-21 bridges

Lowell, MI - On Thursday, October 7th at 9:30 am the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) invite the public to attend a ribbon-cutting event to mark the completion of the new M-21 (Main Street) bridges over the Flat River in downtown Lowell.

The project replace the two bridges, marking their first reconstruction since they were built in 1941. The $2.15 million investment is expected to extend the life of the bridges and increase ride quality.

The event, which is being held to acknowledge the positive impact of the project and recognize the contributions of all those involved, will be attended by several federal, state and local elected officials as well as officials from MDOT and the Federal Highway Administration.

Author John Otterbacher to appear at Englehardt branch library

Lowell, MI - Author John Otterbacher will appear at the Englehardt Branch library in Lowell to talk about this book "Sailing Grace" and the 30,000 mile family cruise across the open seas that inspired it. The book, which was honored as "Best New Non-Fiction Book" by Indie Awards, is available at several bookstores around West Michigan.

The event is free and will take place on Tuesday, October 5th at 7:00 pm.

Annual fundraiser for Franciscan Center features fall family friendly event on October 10th

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) The Franciscan Center will host a 'Country Sampler; a family friendly fall celebration Sunday October 10th.

The afternoon begins with the Celebration of Mass at 11:00 a.m., with food, games, music and the Country Store opening at noon.  This year, there will be no entrance fee although guests may purchase coupons for lunch and selected activities. A lunch of hot dogs or “Walking Tacos”, corn-on-the-cob and apple pie is planned. Guests are also welcome to bring their own picnic lunches.  

Families can enjoy team games, horse-drawn wagon rides, miniature horse cart rides, pumpkin painting, puppet making, live music, apple roasting and more.
