North Lowell continues slight lead in food fight

The food pantry shelves at Flat River Outreach Ministries are looking a bit better thanks to the North Lowell and South Lowell teams and their efforts over the first two weeks of the annual food drive. As of June 16 the North team leads the South in the collection of non-perishable food items and donations 7141 to 6979.

North Side Ahead in Annual Fundraiser

North Side Ahead in Annual Fundraiser

It has been an amazing first four days of Food Fight 2011!  The scoring now totals over 4,700 and last year there was 5,938 scored in the entire first half!  The North Lowell Team tried to take control early as Ada/Lowell 5, Sneakers, Springrove Variety, Dollar General and newcomer Great Clips all muscled their way to a fairly substantial lead.  However, the South Team was once again bolstered by team leader Schneider Manor with food and cash donations.  Also, the FROM Thrift Shop was lopsided with South donations and Redfrog Technologies along with Greenridge Realty tossed in some added South scoring.  It will be an interesting week, as the first quarter ends this next Friday!  Don't forget, there are over 50 Lowell businesses offering Food Fight Specials.  Just donate a non-perisha

Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day

Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day

Yes, it may be cloudy out right now but come this afternoon the sun should be peeking out.  What should you do on a day like today?  How about grab the family and celebrate National Get Outdoors Day?  National Get Outdoors Day was launched June 14, 2008 and has been an annual event ever since.  It is also an extension of the Get Outdoors USA! campaign which encourages Americans, especially the youth, to seek out healthy, active outdoor lives.

In today's world, children are connected to technology more then ever.  Whether it be from video games, computers, ipods or cell phones it's time to bring the youth back to nature.  Back to the days where we spent the summers riding our bikes around the neighborhood till the street lights came on.  Spending a Saturday afternoon fishing with grandpa or taking a morning hike with mom.
