LOWELL, Mich.—Lowell has a new chief of police.

Officer Steve Bukala will take over the post this week, as Police Chief Barry Getzen retires.  According to the Lowell Ledger, Bukala served as acting police chief after James Hinton stepped down and before Getzen could take office in May 2011.

Bukala has been a part of the police force and an active member of the community for nearly 20 years.
