M-21 Bridge Project is behind schedule

ADA, MI - Unusually-high water levels on the Grand River have resulted in a number of lost work days on the M-21 bridge project throughout the spring and summer months. A total of 40 days on pier work in the river have been lost due to high water levels, including, most recently, the period between July 30 and August 5. As a result, the project is about 6 weeks behind the original schedule, which called for completion of the new bridge deck by the end of November, 2011.

MDOT is working with the contractor to find ways to make up the lost time. If this can’t be accomplished, it is likely that completion of the bridge deck and opening it to traffic will be delayed until April - May 2012, unless favorable weather conditions allow pouring of concrete pavement to take place during the winter months.
