Lowell @ Forest Hills Central

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Defending state champion Lowell looked for its second straight road win to start the season, with a trip to Forest Hills Central.

The Red Arrows lead 28 - 0 in the third quarter.  Gabe Dean took the ball right up the middle for an 18 yard touchdown to make the score 35 - 0 Lowell.

In the fourth quarter Lowell's Renn Osborne took the ball around the left end and barreled into the endzone to put the Red Arrows up 42 - 0.  That was the final score.

If you use the City’s orange trash bags and yard waste bags please note the following:

At the September 20, 2010 meeting, the Lowell City Council will be considering trash, recycle and yard waste services.  There is a possibility that the City may change haulers on December 1, 2010, so please do not over purchase trash and yard waste bags at this time.

A notice will be posted in the Lowell Ledger, Buyers Guide and City web page (www.ci.lowell.mi.us) if there is a change.

Main Street bridge construction to be transformed into art

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM) - Artists mark your calendar.

Fire and Water Art Gallery at 219 Main Street is hosting an unusual event surrounding the bridge construction on Main Street.

Leslie Stougaard of Fire and Water Gallery is inviting artists of all levels to the Art Bridge event. People will spend the afternoon sketching or photographing the bridge under construction over the Flat River.

Stougaard says secret spots have been identified and special arrangements have been made to give artists special access to the bridge work.

The event is scheduled for September 20th from 1pm - 4pm. Artists are expected to bring their own supplies.

Lowell gets ready for the Fallasburg Fall Festival

LOWELL, Mich. (WZZM)- Now that summer is winding down it's time to start thinking about the annual Fallasburg Fall Festival.

This years event takes place September 25th and 26th at Fallasburg Park.

The Lowell Area Arts Council says there are 105 exhibiters this year. Applications were taken through April 1st for this popular event.  New applications will be available January 1st, 2011

 

Lowell Chamber hoping to get the word out about area non-profits

Lowell, Mich. (WZZM)- The Lowell Chamber of Commerce is trying to get the word out about the area's non-profit organizations.

The chamber is hosting a new event called  "Kaleidoscope of Flavors" to help the community learn about the 23 non-profit organizations.

The Chamber says the goal is to have fun activities, food, displays and information at organization locations. 

Community members will visit the sites and see first hand what each participating organization is all about.  This event is geared toward persons of all ages!

EGR rolls in season opener

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - Four time defending state champion East Grand Rapids opened their season up against Jenison.

The Pioneers erased an early 3-0 deficit. Ryan Elble scored on a one yard run to put EGR up 14 to 3 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Pioneers broke it open.  David Drummond slipped off a couple of guys for a 36 yard to the Jenison 12.

Elble then found Sam Nystrom who, at the two yard line, went head over heels to score six.

At the end, East Grand Rapids won it going away, 43 to 11.
