CASCADE, Mich.—There’s a new face among the Kent County Board of Commissioners.

Thursday morning, the board unanimously voted to appoint Mandy Bolter of Cascade to the vacant District Five seat.

"I am honored to be part of such a great group of people, working to keep our county the best place to live, work, start a business and raise a family,” said Commissioner Bolter. “I couldn't be more excited and anxious to get to work for the people of the 5th District."

Bolter has 16 years of experience in public service, including three years as the West Michigan liaison to the Michigan senate majority leader.  She most recently served as legislative director for Representative Peter MacGregor.

Bolter graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in political science; she also completed the Michigan Political Leadership Program through Michigan State University.

Bolter replaces former commissioner Sandi Frost Steensma who stepped down to focus on her business and her recent appointment to the Board of Trustees for Lake Superior State University.

District Five covers Lowell Township, Cascade Township, Bowne Township and a portion of Caledonia Township.
