Gas drops below $3.00 a gallon

Gas drops below $3.00 a gallon

It’s something we haven’t seen for a long time.  Gasoline has finally dropped below $3.00 per gallon in West Michigan.  WZZM 13 spotted the first pump on Sunday at Costco on 28th Street SE in Cascade where unleaded gas was selling for $2.99.  Today, unleaded gas was selling for $2.98 a gallon at the Speedway station on Alpine Avenue South and 3 Mile Road NW in Walker.  GasBuddy.com shows gas prices as low as $2.83 at two Admiral stations in Lowell.

Gasoline prices have been dropping because U.S. oil and natural gas production are at a 28-year high due in part to the nation’s boom in shale oil.  Industry observers also attribute the decline to Americans burning less gas because of more fuel efficient vehicles and younger people are driving less.
