The State Park in Grand Haven comes to life with incredible kite performances this weekend. Don’t miss the fun!

For the 28th year, the world’s best kite flyers - individuals, pairs & teams will be performing continuously on Saturday, May 21 from 10am – 5pm & Sunday, May 22 from 11am – 5pm.

Kite enthusiast and their families are invited to experience different size kites with amazing capabilities controlled by professional kite handlers. There will also be an Open Flying Field to fly your own kite.

Grand Haven State Park is located at 1001 Harbor Avenue in Grand Haven, Michigan 49417.

The Lowell Area Chamber members and community win through your contributions to this fund. The proceeds from the Event Holes, Tee Box sponsorships, silent auction, Mulligans and "Beat the Pro" Challenge all benefit the scholarship fund after expenses.

Free Fishing Weekend Coming Up

For the Valentine’s weekend, it’s a free fishing weekend for residents and out of state visitors.

All fishing license fees are waived for two days in Michigan, February 13 & 14 from 6:00am – 10:00pm. This allows fishing enthusiasts to enjoy the chance to catch all types of fish on both inland and Great Lakes’ waters during their respective open season. Just remember that all regulations still apply.

My Town Lowell: Peters cosponsors bill to complete North Country National Scenic Trail

U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) has announced that he is cosponsoring the North Country National Scenic Trail Route Adjustment Act which would revise the North Country National Scenic Trail Route (NCNST) to protect environmentally sensitive areas of the trail and extend it into Vermont to connect with the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

“Thousands of people come to the North Country Trail each year to enjoy the natural beauty of Michigan and our Great Lakes,” said Senator Peters. “Completing the Michigan portions of the North Country Trail will help provide new opportunities for conservation and outdoor recreation, increasing tourism to our state and the Great Lakes, and supporting local communities and businesses.”

My Town: Consumers Energy Foundation awards nearly $39K to nonprofits

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Dozens of nonprofit organizations that are close to the hearts of Consumers Energy employees are getting a financial boost.

The Consumers Energy Foundation recently awarded 78 grants worth $38,350 to organizations in Michigan where Consumers employees and retirees volunteer.  Last year, nonprofits in the state received more than $8 million from Consumers Energy and its employees, retirees, foundation and parent company, CMS Energy.  

The 2014 second quarter grant recipients include:

Allegan County

  • $450 to Fennville Public Schools Youth Baseball (Loren Barnes)
  • $550 to Fennville Public Schools Youth Football (Loren Barnes)

Ionia County

  • $550 to Portland Public Schools Wrestling Club (Chad Miller)

Kalamazoo County
